Introduction to Early-Years Nutrition
Module 1
- Nutrition overview – Nutrition and its importance in the early-years.
- Food groups – Achieving a healthy balanced diet, meeting nutrient needs.
Introduction to Early-Years Nutrition
Module 2
- Nutrients for a healthy balanced diet – Macronutrients, micronutrients and fluids.
- Problems associated with deficiency – Vitamin D deficiency, iron deficiency, at risk groups and achieving safe nutrient intakes.
- Problems of excess – Obesity and dental decay.
Birth up to Weaning
Module 3
- Feeding from Birth up to Weaning – Breastfeeding, formula feeding and combination feeding.
- Growth measurements – Weight and growth assessment.
- Supplementation – Vitamins requirements, supplementation and availability.
- Common problems – Reflux and regurgitation, colic and constipation.
- Teething – Important developmental roles and avoiding acid erosion and dental decay.
Weaning to 12 Months

- Feeding and nutritional needs.
